History of the Observatory’s Open Day

For more than a century, the Observatory has been actively promoting public education, through organising various exhibitions and activities. According to existing record, the earliest among them can be traced back to 1922 when the Observatory has been welcoming visits by student groups and non-profit organisations. From the 1960s, the Observatory started to organise World Meteorological Day celebration activities, which were the predecessors of the annual Observatory’s Open Day. From 2000, the Observatory started to organise open day annually, except the recent years under COVID-19 pandemic, to promote awareness of the Observatory’s work and climate change to members of the public through visits to the Observatory headquarters.
